Bacterial Killing Studies

Anti-Bacterial Studies

  1. The antibacterial activity was carried out by employing 24h cultures with given compounds by using the Agar-Well diffusion method.
  2. The medium was sterilized by autoclaving at 120° C (15 psi) for about 30min.
  3. About 20 ml of the Nutrient Agar Medium seeded with the respective strains of Bacteria and transferred aseptically into each sterilized petri dish (Pour Plate Method).
  4. The plates were left at room temperature for solidification. Each plate, a single well of 6 mm diameter was made using a sterile borer.
  5. The test compounds were freshly reconstituted with suitable solvent (DMSO) and tested at various concentrations.
  6. The samples and the control along with standard (Ciprofloxacin) were placed in 6 mm diameter well. Petri plates were incubated at 37 ± 2°C for about 12 hrs.
  7. Standard (Ciprofloxacin) with 5 μg/ml was used as a positive control.
  8. The activity diameter of the zone of inhibition was measured using the antibiotic zone scale.

Corona Virus (COVID-19)

  1. Coronavirus greatest threat to mankind.
  2. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain.
  3. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.
  4. Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
  5. This is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus.
